State Representative Tan Parker represents House District 63, which includes the southwest portion of Denton County. Being elected to serve the people of Denton County and fight for the betterment of Texas is something Tan commonly refers to as the highest honor of his professional life.
During the 86th Legislative Session, Tan was appointed to serve on the State Affairs, Business and Industry, and House Administration Committees. During previous legislative sessions, Tan chaired the House Committee on Investments and Financial Services as well as Corrections. His other recent committee work has included International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and Redistricting.
Tan served as the Chairman of the House Republican Caucus for the 2015 84th Legislative Session as well as the 2017 85th Legislative Session after being unanimously elected by his House colleagues. During his tenure, he led the Republican majority by providing research, education, policy development, floor management, and other critical support to the Caucus members and their staff.
Since being elected to serve the people of Denton County, Tan has earned the trust of his constituency to accomplish many legislative improvements that make your government more accessible and responsive while also bringing common-sense solutions to address concerns facing our state. Just a few of these include:
• Improving the efficiency of local government operations to save tax dollars
• Fighting to establish greater protections for the unborn, provide alternatives to abortion, and increase the availability of medical and protections services for our most vulnerable Texans
• Enacting protections to stop financial abuse of senior citizens and vulnerable adults
• Moving more children out of foster care and into permanent homes
• Further protecting Texans from human trafficking, enacting safeguards for victims and increasing criminal penalties for traffickers
• Removing local prohibitions on faith based organizations from providing overnight housing for homeless teens and also ensuring school districts provide online resource information to assist these youths
• Establishing training to better educate parents, students, and teachers as to the signs of and how to prevent child abuse. This initiative, known as "Jenna's Law", was recently introduced by United States Senator John Cornyn as the first legislation of its kind on the national level.
• Strengthening election integrity to protect the process
• Reducing overreaching government regulations on private businesses
• Extending the Good Samaritan Act to include volunteer emergency service personnel
• Improving upon lake recreational safety to save lives and provide safer waters
• Establishing adult stem cell treatment options for terminally and chronically ill patients
• Innovating industry and workforce development opportunities so Texans can build greater skills leading to better jobs.
Tan has a decorated private sector business career that includes valuable experience in the technology, software, financial services and private equity industries. A passionate advocate for community and serving others, Tan is on several board of directors and advisory councils including the Board of Trustees for the University of Dallas, Communities in Schools of North Texas, the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County, and Kyle’s Place. He has also been involved in the Lewisville Lake Symphony along with proudly serving as honorary chair for the Special Olympics Texas Steak N Stetson event for the past four years.
A successful Texas businessman, Tan spent his childhood growing up in the North Texas region and graduated college at the University of Dallas as well as obtained his higher business degree at the London School of Economics. A lifelong conservative and fighter for limited government, Tan started in public service as a White House intern under President George H.W. Bush and began serving in state government as Governor Perry's appointed Chairman of the Texas Industrial Development Corporation. Tan served Texas previously as an appointee of the Texas Comptroller, and guided the state's e-Texas initiative geared toward making Texas government more efficient and effective through e-enablement.
Tan resides in Flower Mound, Texas with his wife of 25 years, Beth, and their daughters, Lauren (Texas A&M) and Ashley (Flower Mound High School) along with their dog, Rosie.
Giovanni has been married to his wife Elisa for 20 years, and has three children attending Carroll ISD schools. After receiving his BS in Physics, he pursued his MBA in Finance from Santa Clara University. After school, Giovanni went on to work for a DFW based venture capital/private equity firm.
Giovanni is now the owner and president of his own small business, Texas Adventure Capital LLC, which provides business services to various investment fund managers and business owners. His focus is investing in Texas-based small businesses. Previously, Giovanni held various positions at computer engineering companies specializing in semiconductor design and Internet products, and was senior vice president at an investment firm where he managed the loan and equity portfolios of various American businesses.
Giovanni was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2012 and is serving his fifth term representing District 98 which encompasses all or part of Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake, North Fort Worth, and Haslet. He currently serves on the House Committee on Pension, Investments & Financial Services and the House Committee on Appropriations. He is the chairman of the Innovation & Technology Caucus and a member of the following House caucuses: Manufacturers Caucus, Rural Caucus, Sportsman's Caucus, Veteran's Caucus, Farm to Table Caucus, and the Fine Arts Education Caucus. Giovanni also chairs the Tarrant County Delegation.
